Beauty, Style, History – all combined under one roof
The impressive early 20th century Art Nouveau building (built in 1908) could tell many stories. Friedrich Schott, the company patriarch of the former „Portland-Cementwerke Heidelberg und Mannheim AG“, now formed into „HeidelbergCement AG“, once built the house as festival and end of the work day celebration hall for his workers and their families.

Even more than100 years ago, people celebrated, laughed, drank, and danced in Portland Forum, according to the motto which adorns the entrance way: A day full of work – an evening full of guests. Sour week – happy celebration.
Up to 2000 people once found room in the large ball room with stage and cinematograph, who gathered for various presentations and entertainment events. Some came to study and read in the librabry, others held meetings or played pool.

During World War I there was no laughter or music heard in the halls of Portland Forum: during those years the house served as sickbay for the military. During later years the building housed the factory kitchen and canteen of the „Portland-Zementwerke Heidelberg AG“.

After many years of hard use, the old shine finally came out again after extensive reconstruction work, preserving the site as historic interest. In the mid 90s, the building was carefully restored and reinstated as well as technically upgraded, thus combining the spirit of „good old times“, the beauty of historic architecture and the efficiency of modern technical equipment in a wonderful and extraordinary event venue.

Today all kinds of people meet in Portland Forum for various events. Companies and Organizations as well as private organizers invite their guests to this tasteful venue, enjoying the beauty of the building and benefiting from the persuasive advantages deriving from the location and surroundings of the building.
